History

We renovated the house for the past two years and would like to show you a little bit of that journey.

When we bought the house in 2022, it had been empty for 25 years. The furniture inside had remained mostly unchanged, making it feel like stepping back into history. During renovations, we decided to blend modern amenities with the house’s enduring charm. For instance, the original toilet, which was just a hole in the ground downstairs, was removed and replaced with modern facilities in other areas. Wherever possible, we restored and reused old features to maintain its unique appeal.

A Glimpse into History

The house was originally built in two phases: the downstairs area, which served as an olive processing and storage area, dates back to 1916, and the upstairs section, one of the first bourgeois houses in the village, was constructed in 1936. This was a very different time when Milina was still primarily connected to the outside world by boat and kalderimi (stone-paved paths).
